Urban Modern Wrought Iron Railing in Chicago

Urban Modern is the look most city condos and new builds are after: square bar, straight lines, dark finish, nothing ornamental. This exterior railing is exactly that, powder coated black, built to sit on a Chicago property without competing with the architecture.

Square bar keeps the profile tight and the spacing regular, which is what gives the style its clean, almost graphic feel from the street. Outside, the finish matters as much as the design.

We powder coated it, and on an exterior railing in Chicago that is almost always the right call. Powder coat on wrought iron is a dry finish baked on in an oven, tougher than paint, and it holds its color against sun, rain, and road salt for 15 to 20 years. The one honest catch is that a deep gouge can’t be touched up on the wall, the piece has to come back to be recoated, but for most homeowners that trade is easy.
