Modern Wrought Iron Exterior Staircase in Chicago

S26

An exterior staircase has to be two things at once: safe to climb in every season and good-looking enough to live on the outside of your home. This is a modern outdoor staircase in Chicago, round bar powder coated satin black.

Outdoor stairs take more abuse than almost anything else we build. They get rain, snow, ice, and salt, they are climbed daily, and the treads have to stay grippy when wet. We design them with that in mind, from the way water sheds off the treads to the finish that keeps the whole structure from rusting.

Powder coat is the finish here, baked on and good for 15 to 20 years outside, and our powder coating writeup explains why it beats paint outdoors. On the code side, an exterior stair needs a graspable handrail and a guard at the heights set by the 2024 IRC, and we build the wrought iron to those specs and confirm them for the address.

If your back stairs or porch steps are rusting or feeling shaky, that is a safety issue. Call Signature Metal Works and we will come take a look.
