Contemporary Wrought Iron Porch Railing in Chicago
R78Chicago is hard on outdoor metal. Between winters, road salt, and a century of paint layered onto old porch railings, a lot of the exterior work we do here is replacement. This contemporary railing was built to take an old one’s place: square bar, powder coated black.
On a Chicago porch or stoop, anything more than 30 inches up needs a guard, and the city layers its own porch construction rules on top of the model code under Chicago’s building code. We build to those and confirm the specifics for the address, because what passes inspection in one suburb is not always identical in the city.
For the finish we went powder coat. On an exterior railing it outlasts paint by a wide margin, holds color through Chicago summers and winters, and asks almost nothing of you once it is installed. We design, fabricate, finish, and hang the wrought iron ourselves, so the measurements that come off your porch are the ones the railing is built to. If your old railing is failing, here is how we approach replacing an existing one.
If your porch railing is rusting through or wobbling, that is a safety issue worth handling. Call Signature Metal Works and we will come take a look.
